Chapter Seven

LILITH

“What the fuck?!”

I jerked awake, and Cain growled beside me as he put himself between me and the obnoxiously loud person who’d woken us up. “Back off.”

I peeked around his large frame, finding Chaos fuming at the foot of the bed. His eyes landed on mine, taking in the crumpled sheets and the blood on the pillow. His eyes widened as he realized Cain had bitten me, his nostrils flaring with anger.

“Are you fucking stupid?!” he shouted as he stalked towards me.

Cain moved at vampire speed, blocking him from getting near me, his anger burning into me and making me frown. It was as if I could feel it in my damn bones.

“Don’t fucking touch her!” he spat, shoving Chaos hard, his body flying back and slamming into the wall. Chaos glowered at him, his eyes flashing red.

“The fuck, Cain?”

“She’s mine!” he roared, making me jump at the volume. It was terrifying seeing him so wild, but I scrambled to my feet, placing a hand on his back to try and soothe him.

“It’s okay. Chaos is just worried.” His muscles instantly relaxed from my touch, and Chaos cursed as Cain put an arm around my waist, keeping me close.

“You fucking bonded with her?!”

Cain stayed quiet, causing dread to fill me. “Bonded? Like a blood bond? Just from biting me?”

Chaos’ eyes bore into mine, his voice low. “No. It happens when you share blood. You feed from each other and it connects your blood as one.”

“But I didn’t…” I stopped talking, my eyes going wide. I’d broken the skin when I’d bitten him, and I’d definitely consumed his blood. “Fuck.”

“Fuck’s about right. You don’t want a blood bond, Lilith. You have no idea what you’ve done,” he growled, his eyes returning to Cain. “How could you be so stupid? You’re tied to her for eternity!”

“It was an accident!” Cain hissed, taking a menacing step towards him. “You think I wanted this for her?”

“What’s so bad about it?” I asked with worry, not understanding why they were freaking out. My body was burning from Cain’s anger, and I was struggling to focus.

Chaos snorted, leaning back against the wall to watch me. “A blood bond ties your emotions, for starters. You’ll feel each other’s fears, sadness, and anger. In a lot of cases, it shares your memories, and you’ll feel physical pain when you’re away from each other for too long. You can probably read Cain’s thoughts now, too. I don’t know if that will work because, for some reason, we can't see inside your head like we’re meant to.”

“How do you break it?” I demanded, making Cain scowl.

“Ouch, Little Thing.”

“No, I just meant if it’s so bad, how do you break it?”

Cain sighed, worry in his eyes. “You can’t. Only death stops the bond, but only for the one who passes. The other goes on with a broken heart, eventually dying from it.”

“We have to break it! I could die any day! I don’t want…”

He growled, fisting my hair and jerking my eyes up to his.
